Doing Our Part To Help Combat Human Trafficking

Like many who live and work in the greater Atlanta area, we’re proud that our city is hosting Super Bowl LIII.  The eyes of millions will be on our city February 3, 2019 at the spectacular Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Super Bowl week is an opportunity to showcase the richness and diversity of our community.  But while thousands are enjoying the Super Bowl experience this week, it’s critical that all of us do our part to ensure the safety of the most vulnerable in our society.  As the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported recently, big events like the Super Bowl can sadly also attract human traffickers who exploit women and children.

At Ornstein-Schuler Investments, we stand with Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms who has made clear that “the City of Atlanta is committed to ending human trafficking of all people.”  We thank our nation’s law enforcement officers and prosecutors at the federal, state and local levels who are working to protect our country’s children and are working overtime this week in particular to keep everyone safe.

We are grateful to those who work so diligently to keep our community safe and applaud their efforts to end human trafficking and sex trafficking.  A national and state ambassador for the Demand an End initiative – an initiative aimed to create a united force and stop the proliferation of sex trafficking – is Georgia’s own Attorney General Chris Carr, who is playing a major part in raising awareness and educating others about the issue.  He, along with other government officials, recently sent buses wrapped with an anti-human trafficking message through Atlanta, creating a mile-long moving billboard to “give people a better understanding of the size and scope of this industry in [Georgia].”

In Georgia, we are lucky to have elected officials who are shedding light on this pressing issue, but we also recognize that all of us need to do our part.  That’s why Ornstein-Schuler Investments was proud to donate $10,000 this week to “Operation Underground Railroad,” which is a non-profit that assists governments around the world in the rescue of human trafficking and sex trafficking victims, with a special focus on children. O.U.R. also aids with the planning, prevention, capture, and prosecution of offenders, and works with partner organizations for prevention, victim recovery, strengthened awareness, and fundraising efforts.

This Super Bowl week is a celebration for many and it’s a fantastic opportunity to once again show off our city to the world, but let’s not also forget the many who need our help.  Human trafficking is real, and it must be stopped.

Please consider joining us in supporting O.U.R. or any of the other organizations that are dedicated to protecting the most vulnerable in our society.
